OFTEC registered
Oil-fired heating remains common in Jersey homes. OFTEC operates a registration scheme for competent technicians in the oil heating industry, and we are OFTEC registered.
Signs your heating needs attention
- No heating or no hot water
- Radiators that are cold at the top or do not heat evenly
- Boiler pressure that keeps dropping
- A smell of oil, or signs of a leak around the boiler or oil tank
- Unusual noises such as banging, gurgling or whistling
- A boiler that repeatedly switches off or shows a fault code
Quick checks before you call
- Thermostat and timer. Check that the room thermostat is set above the current room temperature and that the timer or programmer is calling for heat. Replace the batteries in any wireless thermostat.
- Power. Make sure the boiler’s electrical switch is on and nothing has tripped at the consumer unit.
- Fuel. For an oil boiler, check that there is oil in the tank.
- Pressure. On a sealed system, check the boiler’s pressure gauge against the range given in its instructions.
- Fault code. If the boiler shows a fault code or warning light, write it down so you can tell us.
Do not remove the boiler casing or attempt repairs yourself. If you smell oil, switch the boiler off and call a heating engineer.

Yes. Our engineers cover all aspects of domestic and commercial heating, up to and including a complete new central heating system.
Why are my radiators cold at the top?
Radiators that are warm at the bottom but cold at the top usually contain trapped air and may need bleeding. If the problem keeps returning, or the system pressure drops after bleeding, the system should be checked by a heating engineer.
